Portfolio

Six formats, and what each one is actually for

A portfolio of short-form video is a strange thing to present as stills, so this is organised by format instead. Each one below is a shape I make repeatedly, with an honest note on what it is good at — including the ones that are better for reach than for conversion.

The formats

What gets made, and why

Every format has a trade-off. Reach and conversion are rarely the same video, and pretending otherwise is how campaigns get judged against the wrong number.

Comedy · 15–30s

Hook-first skits

A recognisable situation, exaggerated just enough to be funny, resolved before anyone has a reason to scroll. The joke carries the video; the first line carries the joke.

For brands

Best place to hide a product mention, because the viewer stays for the punchline rather than the pitch.

Reactive · 7–20s

Trend adaptations

Taking a sound or format while it is still climbing and bending it to something my audience actually recognises. Speed matters more than polish here.

For brands

The fastest route to reach, but it needs a same-week turnaround to be worth doing.

Value · 30–60s

Talking-head advice

One idea, said plainly to camera, with the conclusion up front instead of saved for the end. These are the posts people send to a friend.

For brands

Highest save and share rate, which is what keeps a video being served weeks after it went up.

Story · 20–45s

Behind the scenes

The setup, the retakes, the thing that went wrong. Process content builds more trust than finished content, because it is harder to fake.

For brands

Ideal for showing how a product is used over days rather than in one staged shot.

Commercial · 20–45s

Product spotlights

A real demonstration with a real verdict. If something about the product is weak, that goes in too — which is precisely why the recommendation lands.

For brands

Converts best of everything here, and the honesty is the reason, not a caveat.

Engagement · 10–30s

Community replies

Answering comments as their own videos. It costs nothing to make, tells the algorithm the last post mattered, and gives regulars a reason to keep commenting.

For brands

Cheap extra surface area on a campaign that is already performing.
